Damn You Gmail (Friday, February 01, 2008 12:48:00 AM)

I never thought I'd say it, but Gmail, you suck.

I've been wrestling with this for almost 24 hours now, but the email notifications I set up for the comments are being rejected by Gmail.  What's more, they're being rejected with no bounceback from Gmail.  I set up the site to notify me by email whenever someone commented on a post and what post they commented on.  The first day I did it, the email worked just fine.  I even have the header to prove it!

Am I making this up or did Google accept the above email just fine?

Well, for some reason now it's just accepting the email, but then just saying "eh, fuck you" and dropping it into oblivion.  The courteous thing to do would be to notify me of what happened or send it back, but it doesn't even seem to do that.  I understand Gmail gets millions (if not billions) of spam messages a day, but all I'm asking for here is ONE bounceback to tell me what's wrong.  Instead, it just accepts it and sweeps it under the rug as far as I know.

To be fair though, I can't seem to successfully send to any address in my domain.  The address resolves just fine, but when I send to an address, my mail server accepts it (EHLO, MAIL, RCPT, DATA, QUIT) but it never appears in any of my inboxes or in the Badmail folder of IIS.  So, I guess if Gmail did send me a bounceback, it wouldn't appear in any inbox ... BUT, my logs don't even show a bounceback.

So frustrating ...

Well, if anyone understands that and has any insight, feel free to comment.  But, until then, I have to assume Gmail is giving me the middle finger under the assumption that I'm a spammer.  In reality, it's the legitimate small-time mail servers like mine that bear the brunt of the spam war.

Where am I at Right Now?

Since I've been sort of nomadic lately, now you can look at this little widget dealie and see where I'm at and what the weather is there. Nifty, eh?
